In 2014, a brilliant Oxford graduate called Dr Ruja Ignatova vowed to revolutionise money. The self-styled Cryptoqueen launched OneCoin, a bold new cryptocurrency that she promised would earn its investors untold fortunes and change the world. But by the end of 2017, with billions of dollars invested from every country on earth, Ruja Ignatova had disappeared – along with the money.

The Missing Cryptoqueen tells the outrageous true story of the world’s most wanted woman and the author’s five-year hunt for the truth. It is a modern tale of greed, rivalry and herd madness that reveals how OneCoin became the biggest scam of the 21st Century.

I’m not sure if you could make up a story like this. Excellent research and a fast-moving narrative and this is not really dependent on knowledge of cryptocurrency as it is a good old-fashioned Ponzi scheme using some new tools.

The book is just as brilliant as the podcast. I was hooked from the first page and was pleasantly surprised by how many new revelations behind this extraordinary scam come out in the book. Jamie is an incredibly talented writer and this is perhaps my favourite book he’s written so far.

I saw this book pop up on Twitter and was immediately intrigued by the title. At that point I had heard nothing previously about Ruja Ignatova, the Crypto Queen or One Coin, but this year I’ve been fascinated with stories of Billionaire fraudsters and scammers such as Elizabeth Holmes so it was an instant purchase for me. I completed this book in a day and a half! Jamie is a superlative storyteller, and weaves together a tale that I just couldn’t leave until I reached the end (even though we likely have several chapters to go of Ruja’s story). I had assumed that we would only be dealing with a Crypto scammer, but to my great surprise it was mostly about MLM. As a former Amway devotee, all the little tricks they used to get people bought into the One Coin dream while ignoring the lack of tangible rewards were so familiar. Really cannot recommend this book highly enough – Jamie’s investigation is so compelling I’ve also started on the podcasts! Excellent work!

This book is brilliant. A real pager turner, I devoured it in a few days. I was already aware of the story of OneCoin and Dr Ruja from equally brilliant podcast. But the story is so fascinating that I wanted to know more and the book delivers. New characters, new insights, great investigative journalism. And with Ruja still on the run (and recently put on the FBI’s top ten most wanted list) I’m hoping for a sequel when she’s caught. Great book for the summer. Highly recommended.

The amount of people who have pulled fast ones like this are, I believe, all hiding on some Island somewhere. They must be! (The Isle Of Wight, maybe?)This is a well researched new tale of greed, greed, greed! (Actually, it’s an old tale that simply gets repeated in a differing form somewhere every single day. Same theme, different location and time in history.)I have to say, I’m not yet sure if I’d chuck big lump sums at Crypto. I’ve tried to read and listen to as much as I possibly can and it’s such an arcane subject. Do you trust crypto? And, if you do, why are there so many perps like this one who seem to find ways to dang go fleece us all? Hmm, I dunno; I’ll stick, thanks!

Can’t believe so many people fall for the scam. More interesting than novels

Even though I’d listened to the podcast, the story was crafted to form a really compelling book. I read it in a long weekend and then my other half stole it to read it as well. Highly recommend + a much- needed cautionary tale on how crypto taps into our eternal obsession with chasing riches.

Great read. If you follow Jamie’s podcast on the BBC (The Missing Cryptoqueen) then this book is a must. Ruja, where are you?…

    Modern Day Mystery
Fascinating story of MLM, crypto, and a missing billionaire. A fun ride through a modern day Ponzi scheme, and a sad tale of many people who lost their life savings. A lesson to be learned yet again – what seems too good to be true usually is.
